DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A major accident on Interstate 69 blocked traffic for hours Friday morning. A semi overturned, leaving cattle on the loose.

It happened just before 6 a.m. Friday near mile marker 130 in Dekalb County. Police say a semi was heading northbound when the trailer broke away from the truck and turned over.

The truck was carrying about 38 cows. Some died at the scene.

Police closed both north and southbound lanes for several hours.

Members of the Dekalb County Fair Association were called to help emergency crews.

The cattle are being held at the Dekalb County Fairgrounds until they can be shipped to their original destination.
