LOS ANGELES - The auto industry isn't the only commerical business sector asking the government for a bailout.
According to TMZ.com, Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild filmmaker Joe Francis are heading to Washington to ask for $5 billion to keep their adult entertainment businesses afloat. They say their DVD sales are down 22 percent from a year ago.
"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind," Flynt told TMZ . "It's time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America."
"Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation's most important businesses; we feel we deserve the same consideration," Francis added.
It remains to be seen whether the porn industry will get some government assistance. But other industries may have a better chance. Crippled real estate developers are lobbying the Federal Reserve for a piece of the pie and small banks are also hoping to get some help . In Taiwan, five memory chip manufacturers are asking for a lifeline , igniting a debate similar to the one seen with our auto industry as the semiconductor industry is a significant part of its economy.
