PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVBT) - A loud call to action for everyone was made as we look at these images of Gloucester after the storm.
It's been four days since those devastating tornadoes tore through the close-knit community of Gloucester. The road to recovery will be tough, but the storm victims won't have to go about it alone. The folks at BayPort Credit Union are stepping up to help. As soon as word spread of the destruction caused by saturday's storms, BayPort's Community Involvement team sprang into action.Tiffany Waersch, BayPort marketing specialist and Gloucester resident tells us what they're doing to help the many families struggling with storm recovery and how you can help too!
· BayPort Credit Union branch locations will serve as a drop off for school supplies to replace what was destroyed at Page Middle School.
· Bellamy United Methodist Church is still the drop off point for food and clothing donations.
· BayPort has also set up a Gloucester Relief Fund account to collect donations for the Local Red Cross. Stop by any BayPort Branch or visit our website for details.
Please remember that in the wake of a disaster such as this, we see many community members and local businesses come to the aid of our neighbors. Unfortunately, this is also an opportunity for charity related scams. If you are approached to donate by an individual or a group, please do a little research to verify they are legitimate. For a list of our branch locations, and to see where you can drop off school supplies or make monetary donations, log on to www.bayportcu.org .
