PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVBT) - There's no better way to help Hampton Roads than getting involved with local charities.
Rita Earnhardt, Community Involvement Coordinator with BayPort Credit Union, shares with us how easy it can be!
Q: How can a person or a corporation get more involved?
A: Choose a charity or non-profit that you associate with or have a passion for.
Q: What's the next step?
A: Give them a call to let them know that you are interested in partnering or volunteering.
Q: Some people might think they don't have anything to contribute, but there's always something right?
A: Everyone has a talent or skill that can be used. For example, organizational skills, painting, mentoring a child, or the ability to encourage others.
Q: How has BayPort made a difference in Hampton Roads?
A: BayPort has been involved with charitable organizations that have affected smaller groups such as little leagues, A Day of Caring, partnering with the Peninsula Foodbank to feed 250 children and their families a Thanksgiving meal, as well as the American Red Cross, United Way, and being the largest contributor to the Alzheimer's Association on the peninsula.
Q: What's your next big outreach coming up?
A: Friday, June 4, BayPort's Relay team will be at Todd's Stadium on the peninsula for the Relay for Life event. BayPort's team has been in existence for 10 years and to date has contributed over $250,000.
We invite everyone to stop by the BayPort campsite and be sure to be there for the survivor's walk which starts at 5:00 pm. It will change your life!
