Nicole Livas is the co-anchor of WAVY News 10 at 5 and 5:30pm and Fox43 News at 10pm.
Ask anyone in her family and they'll tell you- Nicole was born to talk. In fact, she arrived on month early and her father says it so she could start talking sooner.
Nicole is a Hampton Roads native. She graduated from Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach and George Mason University in Fairfax. Prior to coming home to Hampton Roads, she worked as an anchor/reporter at WJAR-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, WKBN-TV in Youngstown, Ohio, and WTOV-TV in Steubenville, Ohio.
Nicole has covered several major stories during her career. She reported live from Virginia Tech, one year after the campus shootings. Nicole also reported live from the World Trade Center site in New York City, one year after the terror attacks. She was one of the first reporters at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis, Massachusetts following the JFK, Jr. plane crash. Nicole also covered the EgyptAir Flight 990 crash off of Nantucket, Massachusetts- and the USAir Flight 427 plane crash in Pittsburgh.
Nicole's happier stories include the Hollywood finale of American Idol, Season 5. She also traveled to New York City to cover the auditions for "American Idol, Season 2". Nicole produced several stories during the filming of the tv show "Providence". She loves to go up in Chopper 10 to cover "Friday Night Flights" during high school football season.
Nicole comes from a family of educators and pioneers. Yes, her mother is Becky Livas, the first African-American female tv newscaster in Hampton Roads. She is now a Suffolk school teacher. Her father retired from NASA-Langley, one grandfather taught architechture at Hampton University and founded a firm that still exists in
Norfolk. Her other grandfather taught high school physics and was the first African-American city councilman in Virginia Beach. Both grandmothers were teachers. Nicole's sister is a high school administrator in Virginia Beach, one brother serves in the U.S. Air Force, the other is an engineering consultant in Northern Virginia. Nicole doesn't have children of her own, but is a proud aunt and godmother.
Nicole spends much of her free time in the gym, with her family and friends, and performing community work. She has served as a volunteer with Mentors for Tomorrow, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The American Heart Association, Special Olympics, ACCESS, and the Boys Choir of Hampton Roads.
Nicole loves fresh seafood, fruits and vegetables- and is a true bargain hunter! If you see her in the store, chances are - she'll have her coupon wallet with her.
